4’-Galactosyllactose (4’GL) plays an influential biological role in maintaining gastrointestinal health and has both application and research value. Excellent researchers and advanced instruments have become our powerful assistance. CD BioGlyco will assist you in the production of 4’GL.
The intestinal microbiota plays an active metabolic function in the digestive system. It provides a barrier for the colonization of pathogens, such as fermenting non-digestible fibers and salvaging energy. On the other hand, it can also stimulate the development of the immune system and play an influential role in human health. On the contrary, the disturbance of intestinal microflora will destroy metabolism and immune function. Therefore, it is necessary to add probiotics (such as bifidobacteria and lactobacillus) and prebiotics to food or additives to regulate the balance of intestinal microflora. As the major prebiotic oligosaccharide, galacto-oligosaccharides (GOS) have been used as food ingredients for at least 30 years. It is a mixture containing short-chain oligosaccharides, in which 4'GL is the main molecular component. GOS is not easy to digest and can reach the colon to promote the increase of bifidobacteria in the intestinal microbiota of adults and infants. BbrY_0420, which encodes solute-binding proteins, and BbrY_0422, which encodes β-galactosidase had identical, has the same and strict substrate specificity. They promote the transport and hydrolysis of 4'GL through co-induced coupling. Some studies have found that when GOS is the only carbon source, various Bifidobacterium strains can use prebiotic GOS during culture in vitro. So far, GOS has been widely used.

A recent study focused on the anti-inflammatory activity of a Korean product NeoGOS-P70, which contains a large amount of 4'GL. The product can significantly improve the symptoms of DSS-induced colitis, such as colon shortening, weight loss, and inhibition of inflammatory mediators, including interleukin-6 and tumor necrosis factor-α, and the secretion of myeloperoxidase in the colon of mice with ulcerative colitis. Therefore, it can be speculated that 4'GL may have the potential to anti-ulcerative colitis and regulation of inflammatory response.
