Antibacterial Activity Testing of Polysaccharide-based Biodegradable Material

CD BioGlyco has extensive biological and chemical knowledge of glycobiology and materials characterization to provide clients with antibacterial activity testing to analyze the antibacterial potential of various Carbohydrate-based Biodegradable Materials. We have the confidence to develop comprehensive solutions to drive your project to completion.

Application of Polysaccharide-based Biodegradable Materials with Antibacterial Activity

Chronic wounds are ulcer injuries caused by infection of local skin and subcutaneous tissue. Bacterial infection of the wound not only destroys the remaining epithelial tissue but can also arrest the growth of epithelial tissue. Due to the contradiction between the killing inhibition of harmful flora near the wound and the proliferation of cells (epithelialization) during the healing process, it is challenging to discover effective treatments and solutions.

The development of novel antibacterial materials based on modified natural polysaccharides such as biodegradable carboxymethylated chitosan is of great importance for the treatment of chronic hard-to-heal wounds. It is crucial to understand the biological properties of polysaccharide-based biodegradable materials, which are broad-spectrum antibacterial, promote cell proliferation, and have a high biosafety profile, to rationally use them in the biomedical field.

Antibacterial Activity Testing of Polysaccharide-based Biodegradable Materials at CD BioGlyco

Different types of polysaccharides and polysaccharide derivatives have different antibacterial effects on different pathogenic bacteria, resulting in the development of polysaccharide-based biomaterials with various biological properties. As a leading expert in the study of biologically active carbohydrates, CD BioGlyco offers clients Biological Characterization Services for Polysaccharide-based Biodegradable Materials including antibacterial activity testing. We have developed antibacterial activity testing methods and standard operating procedures to measure the effectiveness of polysaccharide-derived biodegradable materials against:

  • Listeria monocytogenes
  • Staphylococcus aureus
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae
  • Escherichia coli
  • Klebsiella pneumoniae
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Bacillus subtilis
  • Salmonella enterica
  • Salmonella paratyphi
  • Moraxella catarrhalis

(Other microorganisms may be available on request)

We examined the antibacterial activity of polysaccharide-based biodegradable materials through the following services:

  • Analysis of the alkaline phosphatase (AKP) and β-galactosidase activity
  • Measurement of the minimum doubling time/growth curve (MDT)
The MDT test is used to determine the time required to double the number of bacteria. We use the optical density (OD) recorded during the exponential growth phase to draw the growth curve and calculate the MDT of the bacteria.
  • Measurement of the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC)
MIC is the minimum concentration of chemicals that prevent the visible growth of bacteria. Our one-stop service for MIC testing includes culturing the standard test bacteria to be tested, MIC testing, and statistical analysis of experimental results.
  • Measurement of the minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC)
MBC is the minimum concentration of antibacterial agent required to kill a specific bacteria. We use a broth microdilution method similar to MIC to provide clients with MBC detection.
  • Antimicrobial synergy testing assay
We offer antimicrobial synergy testing to help clients evaluate the interaction of two antimicrobial polysaccharide-derived materials to analyze changes in the antibacterial efficacy of the product portfolio relative to their activity.

Our Advantages

  • Ensure high efficiency and quality for detection services
  • Competitive price in the market of antibacterial activity testing services
  • Timely result feedback
  • Ensure 24/7 online service

CD BioGlyco has a long history of working with scientists in industry and academia to support the development of polysaccharide-based biodegradable materials for use in biomedical applications and to advance research into the antibacterial activity of these materials.
