Carbohydrate antigen 15-3 (CA 15-3) is high molecular weight mucin produced by normal breast cells that is frequently overexpressed and aberrantly glycosylated in cancer. CA 15-3 is the most widely used serum marker in breast cancer for preclinical detection of recurrent breast cancer and monitoring of treatment in patients with advanced breast cancer.
