The enzyme phosphoglucomutase converts α-D-glucose-1-phosphate to D-glucose-6-phosphate. The α-anomeric form of glucose with a phosphate group on the main carbon is α-D-Glucose 1-phosphate. The enzyme α-D-Glucose-1-phosphate cytidylyltransferase can convert it to the deoxysugar CDP-glucose.
