Description
FITC-DEAE-dextran is a fluorescent compound, available as a yellow to orange powder that dissolves easily in water, with an excitation maximum of 490-495 nm and an emission maximum of 520 ± 5 nm, which is most intense at pH 13. The synthesis of DEAE-dextran introduces two types of DEAE-substituents into the dextran chain, mainly in a tertiary form, but it can transform, especially with a greater degree of substitution, into a group containing both a quaternary amine and a tertiary amine. FITC-DEAE-dextran is a high-quality product with a molecular weight of 65,000-90,000 and a degree of substitution of 0.001-0.020.
Applications
FITC-DEAE-dextran with a molecular weight of 65,000-90,000 and DS of 0.001-0.020 can be used for the study of permeability characteristics of cell membranes and tissues, and the evaluation of microcirculation, owing to the positive charge imparted by the diethylaminoethyl groups in the molecule.
