Human breast milk contains neutral and acidic high-molecular-weight oligosaccharides whose biological functions are unknown, but there is some evidence that these compounds have essential biological functions. HMOs are hypothesized to be able to reach the colon due to their structural similarity to sugars in N- and O-glycans and their resistance to digestion by N- and O-glycan-specific glycosidases. They may be potential water-soluble receptor analogs that protect against the interaction of pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, or the effects of toxins. They may also have beneficial effects on the development of specific gut microbiota in breastfed infants. HMOs are being discussed as supplements to infant formula due to their potential non-immune factors. Therefore, knowledge of their production methods and analytical techniques is necessary.
FpLNnH is a neutral human milk oligosaccharide. The chemical structure is shown in Fig.1.

CD BioGlyco provides a continuous one-pot enzymatic system for the enzymatic synthesis of FpLNnH. The production process mainly includes the glycosylation pathway of bacterial glycosyl transferases and corresponding sugar nucleotide generating enzymes to promote the efficient generation of extended type 1 and type 2 N-acetyl lactosamine (LacNAc) backbone and heterochains. For the technology of enzymatic synthesis of oligosaccharides, please refer to Production of HMO by Chemoenzymatic Methods.
CD BioGlyco offers a range of methods for HMO Profiling. Such methods are applicable to large numbers of high-purity samples and primarily include proton nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. In addition, we also provide mass spectrometry (MS) for the analysis of FpLNnH. MS is a useful and sensitive method for studying samples of low absolute quantities and concentrations or samples in complex mixtures. Some mass spectrometers offer the possibility to perform structure elucidation studies based on collision-induced fragmentation (CID) or MALDI-TOF-MS (post-source-decay analysis), such as triple-quadrupole or quadrupole ion trap.
At CD BioGlyco, we will work with our clients to define specific requirements and expectations to meet the partnership objectives. Our professional research teams provide clients with high-quality FpLNnH production and HMO profiling services according to your needs.
