Galactomannan Analysis Service
Structure of Galactomannan
Galactomannan is a polysaccharide containing a mannose backbone with a galactose side group, or more precisely, galactomannan is a polysaccharide with a linear (1-4)-linked β-D mannose backbone structure based on a 6-linkage to α-D galactose, i.e., a 1-6-linked α-D galactopyranose. Some plants and fungi contain components of galactomannans. The presence of galactomannan in human blood can be used to diagnose the presence of invasive Aspergillus molds in the human body. In clinical trials, galactomannan is effective in lowering blood glucose levels after meals.

Galactomannan Analysis Service at CD BioGlyco
CD BioGlyco is very experienced in the Analysis of Polysaccharides. Therefore, we offer comprehensive galactomannan analysis services. The methods we offer include:
- Gas chromatography-high performance liquid chromatography (GC-HPLC)
GC and HPLC are commonly used methods for determining sugar content, and we have become quite proficient in this area. We usually use a combination of these two methods to determine galactomannan content.
- Infrared spectroscopy (IR), nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H NMR, 13C NMR), ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy (UV)
IR is effective in determining the functional groups of compounds. NMR is capable of determining the backbone structure of sugar chains, and UV is also an effective method for determining the structure of chemical substances. Therefore, CD BioGlyco will use these techniques to analyze galactomannan's backbone structure and conformation, etc.
- Gel permeation chromatography (GPC)
GPC is a very effective method for molecular weight analysis of polysaccharides. Therefore, we use GPC to analyze the molecular weight and molecular weight distribution of galactomannans.
- X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM)
XRD and SEM are used to analyze the crystalline state of galactomannans and the surface morphology of microscopic particles, respectively.

Publication
Paper Title: Isolation and characterization of galactomannan from seed of Leucaena leucocephala
Technology: GPC
Journal: Polymer Bulletin
Published: 2017
Results: The authors determined the molecular weights of galactomannans using the GPC technique. Specifically, an ultrahydrogel 2000 column was used to pass dextran standards with molecular weights of 12-270 kDa and the corresponding spectra were plotted as the logarithm of elution time versus the respective molecular weights. The results are shown in Fig.3. The molecular weight of galactomannan was inferred to be 6.4 × 104 Da based on the calibration curve of the dextran standard.

Applications
- Comprehensive analysis techniques are used to aid in the research of hypoglycemic and hypolipidemic drugs.
- Molecular weight analysis services accurately differentiate between high and low-molecular-weight galactomannans. The low molecular weight galactomannans are used in the research and development of drugs that regulate the immune system and promote gastrointestinal digestion.
- Galactomannan is used in the analysis of food additives, and our comprehensive analysis enables galactomannan to perform better.
Advantages
- We have extensive experience in analytical techniques for polysaccharides and provide our clients with high-quality analytical results.
- We have a diverse range of polysaccharide analysis methods and offer specific analytical solutions for each client.
CD BioGlyco provides comprehensive polysaccharide analysis services. We analyze galactomannan in many aspects, such as structure, content, and so on. If you are interested in our services, please feel free to contact us.
