GalNAc is an aldohexose (2-Acetamido-2-deoxygalactose) with an N-Acetyl group replacing the hydroxyl group at position 2. GalNAc-1-P is an important component of N- and O-linked glycoproteins, glycolipids, gangliosides, blood groups, glycosaminoglycans, and human milk oligosaccharides.
