Properties
Description
Chaetocin, soluble in warmed DMSO and insoluble in water and ethanol, inhibits the enzymes that add methyl groups to histone proteins, altering chromatin structure and gene expression. It targets dSU(VAR)3-9, mouse G9a, and Neurospora crassa DIM5.
Molecular Formula
C30H28N6O6S4
Targets
dSU(VAR)3-9: 0.8 μM; mouse G9a: 2.5 μM; Neurospora crassa DIM5: 3 μM
Solubility
Warmed DMSO: 87 mg/mL (124.85 mM); Water: Insoluble; Ethanol: Insoluble
Identity
Confirmed by NMR/HPLC/MS.
Applications
Chaetocin can be used to inhibit histone methyltransferase SUV39H1, affecting heterochromatin formation.
