What Is Omega-6 Fatty Acid?

According to the position of the first double bond at the methyl end of the fatty acid, polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) are divided into omega-3 (ω-3) and omega-6 (ω-6) groups. Counting from the carbon on the methyl end and the double bond position at the 6th carbon is called omega-6 fatty acid. Omega-6 fatty acids are essential in the human body, but the body cannot produce them by itself and needs to be obtained from food. Food sources of omega-6 fatty acids are very rich, such as corn, soybeans, vegetable oil, fried foods, beef, lamb, etc. Omega -6 fatty acids include linoleic acid (LA) (18:2), conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) (18:2), gamma linolenic acid (GLA) (18:3), dihomo gamma linolenic acid (DGLA) (20:3), arachidonic acid (20:4), epinephrine (22:4) and eicosatetraenoic acid (ETA) (20:4).
