Biological Significance of Alginate Polysaccharides

Alginate polysaccharide is a polysaccharide compound from algae and it is a linear polyacid composed mainly of α-L-alginate units. It is biocompatible biodegradable, non-toxic, and hypoallergenic to humans. Therefore, it is also applied extensively in the medical field, such as drug release systems and wound dressings. Alginate polysaccharides also affect the human immune system.
