Recombinant Bacillus subtilis acetyl xylan esterase 7A2 produced by Escherichia coli, is responsible for catalyzing the hydrolysis of acetyl groups from polymeric xylan, acetylated xylose, and acetylated glucose. It is produced in Escherichia coli.

It participates in the de-esterification of 1,2,3,4-Tetra-O-acetyl-xylopyranose, 2,3,2′,3′,4′-penta-acetyl-xylobiose, 3′-O-acetyl-2′-deoxyadenosine, 4-nitrophenyl acetate, acetyl groups from O-acetylated small molecules, Cephalosporin C.
