Remusatia vivipara Tuber Lectin Production Service
Remusatia vivipara Tuber Lectin (RVL) Production Service at CD BioGlyco
CD BioGlyco is trusted and known worldwide for our production capabilities which utilize our core expertise in Lectin Production and method development. We leverage our expertise in the lectin arena to reduce Plant Lectin Production times. We provide custom solutions for biopharmaceutical and research applications for the development of molecules that are applied for glycobiology research. All materials produced in our facility are analyzed and characterized via a variety of state-of-the-art techniques.
RVL
RVL is extracted and purified from the tubers of R. vivipara. This lectin is a dimer with mannose-binding specificity. It has two distinct BP2 structural domains in each of its progenitors. It belongs to the "monocot mannose-binding" family of lectins with potential biological activity to induce apoptosis in cancer cells.

Isolation and Purification
Isolation
- Novel technologies
- Subcritical water extraction (SWE)
- Ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE)
- Microwave-assisted extraction (MAE)
- Enzyme-assisted extraction (EAE)
- Magnetic chitosan particles adsorbing and eluting with low pH buffer.
Purification
To enrich lectin production methods, we also propose a Recombinant Lectin Production Service.
Structure Characterization
- SDS-PAGE, gel filtration chromatography, and MALDI-TOF-MS.
- To identify the fractions' molecular weight.
- Electrospray-ionization tandem mass spectrometry (ESI-MS) and methylation analysis.
- To determine the carbohydrate composition.
- Tandem mass spectrometry and methylation analysis of N-glycans.
- To detect the glycosylation sites.
Activity Assay
- We use the Lowry method to determine the protein concentration of the product.
- We use the hemagglutination assay to detect the hemagglutination activity.
- We use the hemagglutinin inhibition assay to determine the carbohydrate-binding specificity of the product.

Applications
- RVL is used to differentiate between high mannose N-glycans detected by glycan array analysis.
- RNL is used to separate specific glycan affixes by affinity chromatography.
- RVL exhibits a potent toxic effect on M. incognita, suggesting its potential application in the development of nematode resistant transgenic-crops.
Advantages
- Extraction and purification from natural sources by chromatographic procedures produce a sizeable quantity of lectin.
- Combining new technology with traditional technology.
- The strict quality monitoring platform.
Through continuous expansion over the years, CD BioGlyco has a broad portfolio of plant lectins and their conjugates. In addition, we have enriched our lectin quality and structure testing processes to meet the quality needs of our clients. Please contact us to inquire about RVL's production process. We will use our rich experience and extensive research in lectin production to help our clients solve the problems they encounter and achieve their goals.
