Senior Scientist, Glycobiology
Role Summary
Activities for this position might include: analyzing samples by HPLC, GC, mass spectrometry, or other analytical methods; assisting with the development of methodology; data interpretation and reporting; interacting with various groups within and outside of our company.
Key Responsibilities
- Synthesize glycoproteins and glycopeptides both in solution phase and on solid phase;
- Perform routine analysis of substrates, fermentations and metabolites;
- Assist with troubleshooting and repairing equipment malfunctions;
- Provide high-quality data on a timely basis. Troubleshoot methods and data as required by other R&D researchers;
- Learn new analytical methods utilizing HPLC, GC and GC-MS and LC-MS and apply these methods to answer complex biological questions;
- Perform amino acid analysis, elemental analysis, extractions, and characterization of samples;
- Help develop new methodologies to answer technical questions that arise from within the Research and Development organization;
- Interest in learning and characterizing samples with various OMICs pipelines for proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics, and glycomics.
Basic Qualifications
- Ph.D. or equivalent degree in medical/biological sciences.
- Strong background in glycobiology, glycomics, glycoproteomics, glycoprotein chemistry.
- Experience with both bottom-up and top-down MS-based protein data generation; solid understanding of respective research approaches, analyte and data formats.
- Extensive experience in and familiarity with bioinformatics software and databases, both general (e.g., IPA, etc.) and (glyco)proteomics-specific tools (e.g., GlyTouCan, ProteomeTools, UniProt, KEGG GLYCAN, pGlyco, and PanoramaWeb, Byonic, etc.).
- Solid conceptual biostatistical background.
- Conceptual understanding of biomarker-driven health care research.
- Experience in the pharmaceutical/biotech, diagnostic, or life-science-tools industry is a plus.
- Proven record of being a fast learner, flexible, and mindful team member.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, track record of successfully authoring scientific manuscripts.
- Ability to come up to speed quickly and seek out new solutions independently.
