SJA is a lectin isolated from a pagoda tree. It is a tetrameric glycoprotein containing a single subunit with concerning size. We start with the extraction and purification steps of plant lectins to increase the yield of lectins.
The extraction of SJA typically begins with grinding the flower buds into a fine powder. This powder is then suspended in a buffer solution and stirred continuously to encourage the lectin to dissolve into the solution. Following the initial extraction process, the solution is then centrifuged to remove any remaining solid matter. Besides, we have several emerging extraction methods to choose from, including microwave extraction and ultrasonic extraction.
The purification of SJA is usually achieved through a multi-step process including precipitation, dialysis, and chromatography. In precipitation, solid substances are caused to separate from the solution, after which dialysis is used to achieve further segregation of smaller unwanted molecules.
