Biological research involves lipid metabolism in the fields of metabolic disorders, neuromodulation, and immunomodulation and requires a reliable method to quantify fatty acids (FAs). CD BioGlyco has conducted long-term research and accumulated rich experience in Fatty Acid Analysis. Welcome to cooperate with us to complete your project together.
Straight-chain fatty acids are the basic components of lipids, composed of a carboxylic acid and a long, unbranched chain of carbon atoms. Straight chain fatty acids are divided into short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), medium-chain fatty acids (MCFAs), long-chain fatty acids (LCFAs), and very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFAs). The five SCFAs (formic acid, acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid, and valeric acid) are mainly the final products of dietary fiber fermented by the anaerobic intestinal microbiota and are related to various metabolic diseases such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. MCFAs and LCFAs have the effect of reducing blood fat, cholesterol, and body fat. VLCFAs generally refer to fatty acids with a carbon chain length of more than 20, which are the precursors of lipid media and the constituent components of cell lipids.
Due to its involvement in metabolism, neuromodulation, and immune regulation, straight-chain fatty acids play an important role in homeostasis. Propionic acid may inhibit the synthesis of cholesterol in the liver, and butyric acid plays a regulatory role in the skin's immune system. Straight chain fatty acids are used as markers of many diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer. Therefore, it is indispensable to quantitatively analyze the straight fatty acids in the human body, food, and plants.

The development of gas chromatography (GC) has greatly accelerated the speed of FAs research. CD BioGlyco offers high-quality straight fatty acid analysis services by GC-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The workflow is as follows:
Prepare solutions of different concentrations for the standards, and then use the standards to optimize the conditions to construct a quantitative calibration curve.
Pretreatment of samples to prepare for the quantitative analysis of FAs.
The pretreated samples and standards are derivatized and transferred to a sample bottle for quantitative analysis.
Inject the derivatized sample into GC-MS and analyze it under specific analysis conditions.
The instrument control software was used to process the GC-MS data. According to the calibration curve constructed by the standard, the straight fatty acid content in the biological sample was calculated.
Summarize the analysis procedures, methods, and results of the samples to form a complete report.
