Oxidized regenerated cellulose (ORC) is widely sourced and highly biocompatible, making it a trusted wound hemostatic material for clinicians. CD BioGlyco is dedicated to assisting clients in the development of biodegradable ORCs, the optimization of manufacturing strategies, and the analysis of their hemostatic efficiency and biodegradability.
As a kind of cellulose derivative, ORC has the characteristics of good biocompatibility, biodegradability, and non-toxicity. ORC is a cellulose acid tulle-like or cotton-like absorbable hemostatic material that has been oxidized and processed. It has the appearance and texture of cotton yarn, is soft and thin, and is easy to wrap and stuff. ORC can also be manufactured in conjunction with collagen matrices. Typically, 55% bovine collagen is used in combination with 45% ORC for wound healing and repair.
ORC has been used as a surgical and dental hemostatic agent for nearly half a century and is effective in controlling venous, capillary, and arteriole bleeding in a variety of settings. In addition to this, aldehyde, carboxyl, or ketone groups present on ORC scaffolds can serve as sites for cell, protein/peptide, and drug attachment or further chemical modification to achieve induction of cell adhesion and subsequent proliferation. Therefore, ORCs have also received extensive attention from scientists as a potential biodegradable platform for tissue engineering and drug delivery.
