CD BioGlyco is dedicated to exploring various strategies for the design and synthesis of controllable polymer-grafted polysaccharides to produce polymer-grafted polysaccharides with satisfactory properties. Our rational experimental protocols help our clients to effectively improve the properties of polysaccharides and to achieve the multi-functionalization of polysaccharides for extended biomedical applications.
To impart polysaccharides with more functionalities, researchers have explored various modification methods to improve the physicochemical and biochemical functionality of polysaccharides and effectively manipulate the desired functions. Conventional modification methods typically consume large amounts of amino, carboxyl, or hydroxyl groups of polysaccharides, resulting in disruption of the structural and functional integrity of polysaccharides. However, the grafting of polysaccharides with functional polymers is a strategy that requires only a limited number of reactive sites for the polysaccharide to be occupied, thus maximizing the structural integrity.
Modern polymerization methods such as living radical polymerization (LRP) and ring-opening polymerization (ROP) offer many advantages in the preparation of well-defined polymer grafts, offering the possibility of developing polymers with simple reaction conditions, unrestrained solvents, a range of functional monomers, and structural flexibility. Graft modification of polymers has now become a simple and effective way to expand the field of application of polysaccharides and improve the properties of polymeric materials.
