Cytosine nucleotide has the molecular formula C9H14N3O8P. Its appearance is usually a white crystalline powder and it is insoluble in organic solvents such as benzene and ethanol. In nature, cytosine nucleotides are widely available. It has been found that a large amount of cytosine nucleotides are present in breast milk. Based on this, cytosine nucleotides are added to milk-based milk replacers in the food processing industry, thus showing a beneficial effect on the maintenance of the immune system, the promotion of intestinal maturation, liver growth and metabolism, and lipid metabolism in infants and young children. In the agricultural and farming industries, cytosine often plays a huge role during periods of rapid growth, or when animals receive immune challenges or liver damage. In addition, in the pharmaceutical industry, cytosine nucleotides are a major source of anti-tumor drugs.
