Cell Surface Glycolipid Glycoengineering Service
The Functions of Glycolipids (GLs)
GLs are amphiphilic molecules consisting of a hydrophobic lipid moiety inserted into the cell membrane and a hydrophilic mono-, oligo-, or polysaccharide-head group exposed to an aqueous environment. GLs are readily immobilized on hydrophobic surfaces. Compounds contain one or more monosaccharide residues with a glycosidic bond to a water-repellent portion such as acylglycerol, sphingomyelin (a long-chain aliphatic amino alcohol), ceramide (N-acyl sphingomyelin), or isopentadienyl phosphate. A glycolipid is a glycolipid containing one or more glycerol residues. Sphingolipids are lipids containing at least one monosaccharide residue and a sphingomyelin or ceramide. Cell surface GLs are involved in important activities in organisms, including recognition and adhesion, pathogen infection, signaling, transport, and immune responses.

Cell Surface Glycolipid Glycoengineering Service at CD BioGlyco
GLs perform unique physiological functions in the body, it is necessary to accurately understand the structure of GLs, their metabolism in cells, and the mechanisms of protein interactions.
- CD BioGlyco provides GLs modification service to provide new ideas for understanding the pathogenesis of various metabolic diseases and improving the therapeutic level. Different glycosyltransferases glycosylate and initiate different GL series, namely salivary lipids, ganglion, mucus, and thiolipid series. Complex glycolipid biosynthesis is mediated by the glycosyltransferase system.
- CD BioGlyco analyzes GL interactions with water-soluble proteins by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, surface plasmon resonance spectroscopy, and thin-layer chromatography.
- CD BioGlyco offers microarray services prepared from naturally occurring GLs or synthetic GLs for screening cytotoxins, etc.
- We use electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), liquid chromatograph mass spectrometer (LC-MS), etc., to analyze GLs. The use of fluorescent probe labeling allows real-time observation of their activity trajectories in cells.
CD BioGlyco provides comprehensive cell surface glycolipid glycoengineering services which mainly include:
Applications of Cell Surface Glycolipid Glycoengineering
- Modified cell surface glycolipid glycoengineering is widely used in the synthesis of novel antibacterial materials, such as nanoparticles and liposomes.
- The potential value of Modified cell surface glycolipid glycoengineering as biosurfactants for oral hygiene and the pharmaceutical industry can reduce the dependence on synthetic antimicrobial agents and antibiotics.
- Natural and modified GLs have anticancer activity against a variety of cancer cell lines, such as those derived from breast, cervical, colon, liver, brain, and pancreatic cancers.
- Modified cell surface glycolipid glycoengineering is currently applied to metabolic diseases on a large scale.
- Modified cell surface glycolipid glycoengineering can be used as a warning product for the disease. The onset of disease was determined by analysis of glycosyl structures.
